About Port Said & The Gulf of Suez / Red Sea

Port Said is the Egyptian City at the northern end of the Suez Canal. Opened in 1869, the 160 km of canal links The Mediterranean with the Red Sea.  As this is one of the most important waterways in the world, it is also one of the most heavily used shipping lanes in the world!

Pilots are required to transit the canal from either direction.  The vessel may be required to wait for entry time into the canal so it is important to be organised ahead with your chosen pilot.

Immigration formalities are simple with no visas issued if the yacht is simply waiting to transit the canal.

Please follow all Egyptian Formalities and contact a trusted agent – as we have heard that clearance fees can vary.
