La Route Napoléon

The Route Napoleon runs from Golfe-Juan through Cannes, Grasse, Castellane, Sisteron and Gap to Grenoble. Parts of the road are windy and twisty, but all of it is quite beautiful. Rocky crags, hillsides covered with flowers, snowcapped peaks in the near distance. 

After Castellane the road winds through the Nature Park of the Gorges of Verdun. Between Sisteron and Grenoble, the Alps are ever present, but the road stays low enough to travel through a chain of beautiful towns and villages. A number of statues of a flying eagle commemorate the steps of Napoléon's march – 325 kilometres - which took a whole week on foot.
