Casa de Campo – South Coast
Located on the Casa de Campo Estate on the south east coast (near La Romana) is the ‘mock’ village of Altos de Chavon, an inspired replica of a traditional Mediterranean style village. Restaurants and bars, art Gallery and an amphitheatre for concerts and stage performances plus lots more. The impressive working ‘Greek style’ amphitheatre, which seats a whopping 5,000 people, actively hosts concerts and stage performances. Altos de Chavon promotes itself as a ‘cultural epicentre’ with a School of Design, an artist-in-residence program and an art gallery on site. The village is also home to a museum of archaeology which traces the island’s rich ‘pre-Columbus’ history, from the pre-ceramic era to the time of the Taino Indians.
Altos de Chavon – as its name aptly describes – is perched high on the edge of the Chavon River valley bluffs, resulting in truly amazing views of the surrounding countryside and the elegant ‘dreamy’ beauty of the winding Chavon River valley itself.
A visitor will also find a good selection of restaurants and gift shops / boutiques on-site. Choose between an evening visit for dinner or to watch a concert – or visit during the day for a casual lunch and a relaxed exploration of the museum, art gallery, the village architecture and the gift shops.
