September 21 -28, 2019
Although the first occurrence of Régates Internationales de Cannes took place in 1906, it was only in the 1920’s that they became 'Royales’ in honour of HM Christian X, King of Denmark, and a regular participant at the helm of his 6MR ‘Dana’. Abandoned between 1964 and 1978, attempts were made to reintroduce the Regatta, which now takes place annually at the end of September as ‘Régates Royales’. It attracts a large crowd of classic yacht enthusiasts who come to see over 200 of the most beautiful classic yachts gather in the old port - a magnificent sight with their rigging lit up at night. The boats range from Dragon to International rule including 6, 8 and 12 metres, with six categories of classic yachts and a ‘Spirit of Tradition’ class. The 'Régates Royales' have maintained their traditional unique character, and entertainment is provided in the regatta village. Following on from the ‘Régates Royales’, the race from Cannes to St-Tropez gets under way for many of the yachts, in time for the ‘Les Voiles de St-Tropez’, which starts the next day.
