Sailing, Navigation & Water Safety at Club Nautico San Cristobal, The Galapagos Islands

Caroline Blatter

In the month of October, the team at YachtAid Global (YAG) successfully opened a new facility of their sailing school, Club Nautico San Cristobal in the Galapagos Islands.
The over 1200 resident children on San Cristobal Island in the Galapagos now have a facility to help them develop skills, teaching them how to sail, navigate and be safe around the water.

In addition, the sailing school aims to establish a foundation for future career opportunities in the marine industry and help connect the local youth more with their marine environment.

Although YAG are proud of this accomplishment, launching the first school on San Cristobal Island, with over 8000 youth in the Galapagos Islands in total, this is just one more step in YachtAid Global’s continued support of the Galapagos Island communities.

Providing clean water access, conservation, and education at the Galapagos Islands

Operation Beagle is YachtAid Global’s ongoing commitment to supporting the coastal communities of the Galapagos Islands in reaching long-term, sustainable development goals through programs in the areas of clean water access, education, youth sports and environmental conservation.

Since its inception, Operation Beagle has provided clean water for 27 schools across 4 islands, educational programs on the reduction of single use plastics, delivery of school supplies and computers, launched the first library in the islands in collaboration with resident organizations and most recently launched the YachtAid Global Sailing and Swimming Program-Galapagos. The program teaches valuable water skills, builds confidence, fosters a connection between local youth and the surrounding ocean environment and provides positive peer relationships.

Galapagos is an unforgettable and important cruising destination, where visiting yachts and crew can participate in YachtAid Global’s Sailing and Swimming Program as well as other initiatives during their visits.
