A Note to Superyachts Operating in The Dominican Republic with Guests on board
Chartering for foreign flagged yachts is legal and permitted in the Dominican Republic (DR) and there is no VAT fee involved. There are only the regular clearance fees to pay at the ports of entry to local authorities.
What is NOT permitted:
- If any local or international Charter Company or what is called in the DR, a “NAUTICAL TOURISM SERVICE PROVIDER described as a natural or legal person that commercially operates a nautical or sports tourism vessel by providing third parties with transportation services or rental of boat for recreational purposes - if the company is based in the DR, the following is required by law:
- All yachts commercially registered under a Dominican based Company must be registered as a Dominican Republic vessel and fly the Dominican Republic flag. This procedure will involve some annual taxes to the Dominican Navy for the registry of the Dominican flag and annual cruising permit per vessel.
