Venice - The Floating City

Caroline Blatter

At the very top of the Adriatic Sea lies the floating city of Venice, built on over 100 small islets within the Venetian Lagoon...

...and is separated from the sea by a strip of land called the Lido di Venezia. Yachts can enter the lagoon through the Lido-San Nicolo Canal – a deep water channel that leads right up to St. Mark’s Square, where yachts can  berth alongside or on moorings - but must have the assistance of yacht agents.

For those yachts on an owners cruise or on charter in the Adriatic this summer, head for the romantic city of Venice before moving on to the beaches and emerald waters of Croatia & Montenegro.

With no roads, just canals – this enchanting city is packed with culture & history – spanning ancient Renaissance & Gothic Palaces, galleries with centuries old collections of art, modern exhibits, romantic Gondola rides, fascinating museums to world renown classical music concerts in deconsecrated churches. Iconic operas in the beautifully restored La Fenice Opera House are a must, with the 75th Venice International Film Festival at the end of August attracting a host of international artists. This prestigious event is the oldest Film Festival in the world, held at Venice Lido.
