Grenada Updates – COVID19 Protocol Implementation

Caroline Blatter

A Message from Grenada Lima:

A few important things to note to prepare and in advance of your arrival into Grenada.

Only yachts registered with Grenada Lima and being processed through the Arriving Yachts Protocol will be able to come into Grenada. The sea port borders remain closed to yacht traffic.

All yachts intending to come to Grenada need to complete the Maritime Health Declaration Form 48 hours ahead of their scheduled arrival. The form reference is IHR 2005 Annex 8.

Grenada Lima will try and get a user-friendly copy of this form.

A designated quarantine area has been set up. The GPS coordinates of this area will be given to you.

Quarantine will be 14 days with no shore-leave granted and this will be on your yacht in the quarantine area. A provisioning supply chain has been set up for you during this time but Grenada Lima advise provisioning as much as you can before you leave for Grenada.

On arrival in Grenada certain procedures will need to be followed. These will be published clearly on Grenada Lima once they have full approval.

After the quarantine period you will be required to take either a PCR test or a Rapid Test. The cost will be EC$200 for the PCR Test or EC$75 for the Rapid Test. There will be a Statutory Regulation published requiring you to do this. If you object to taking this test then please make alternative arrangements as you will not be able to clear into Grenada.

There will be an arrival schedule set up where yachts will book an arrival date and be expected to arrive within 48 - 72 hours of that date. There will be a small admin fee of US$20.

Grenada Lima will update again once the final implementation approval is granted and the system can go live. Thank you again for your patience. Please direct any questions to [email protected]

Press Release:

At the beginning of last month (10th May, 2020), Grenada’s Prime Minister confirmed borders were anticipated to be opening in early June, stressing that this will only take place with ‘the requisite protocols in place’.  One of the first protocols to be developed was that for Caribbean-based yachts.

Understanding the importance of providing support to yachts planning hurricane season hauls, berths and shelter in Grenada, a database portal was rapidly developed and launched in late March by the organization representing the national yachting industry - The Marine and Yachting Association in Grenada (MAYAG).  This has enabled a clearance protocol to be developed based on pre-booked arrival scheduling, quarantine on board and health checks and testing.   For more information and to register for Grenada arrival, see grenadalima.com

The scheduling of the first arriving yachts is well underway and the yachting industry in Grenada is opening up in controlled steps after a period of stringent lockdown and closed borders.  The measures over the last few weeks have resulted in only 6 active cases remaining, with no new cases identified.  Contact tracing and testing are in place and business operation is subject to industry-specific health guidelines.  The measures are credited with preserving not only the Health Service, but the country’s infrastructure with cargo ports, couriers and food supply fully operational.

Charlotte Fairhead, Manager of Camper & Nicholsons Port Louis Marina says:

‘As we heard from yachts throughout the Caribbean concerned about where they could go, it was clear creating a safe way of opening up for yachts this season was important.  We can’t thank enough the individuals involved from Customs, Immigration, Port Authority, the Ministry of Tourism, the Ministry of Health and for working with MAYAG in getting the yacht entry protocol up and running’.
