Update on Mallorca’s Marine Industry

The Balearics are slowly opening up again...
As the new cases of Covid-19 have been decreasing consistently in Spain, the Government has started to release some of the restrictions, to the joy and relief of many!
In the yachting side, all shipyards, marinas and companies have implemented very strict protocols to assure the health and safety of their workers and clients.
Refit, repair and maintenance activities are allowed, as well as sea trials.
There is no longer the need to request a special authorization from the Government Delegation to enter or leave the Spanish harbours, however, the following rules apply:
- The vessel must have a confirmed reservation in a marina or shipyard.
- Once the boat is moored, it is subject to the current law of the state alarm at the time of arrival.
- The crew members who arrive with the boat must have an accredited or recognized professional qualification and work contract.
- There can not be passengers/guests on board.
- Crew with a certificate of residence in the Balearic Islands can disembark and go to their home, fulfilling the established mobility restrictions.
- Crew without residence must remain on the boat with the established mobility limitations restrictions.
- The delivery crew that will not be kept on by the vessel must depart the island immediately unless they are a resident of the Balearics.
- Each person coming on board to undertake works are obliged to follow the protocols as laid out by the national government as well as respecting any additional protocols as stipulated by the vessel.
For crew who are outside of The Balearics or Spain, they are allowed to travel to the Balearics and vice versa with specific documents such as work contracts, a letter from the Captain, copy of boat registry, a letter from the marina or shipyard stating that the vessel is there.
The shipyards are lifting yachts as normal and currently, all companies are able to work in the shipyards and marinas. Courier and logistic services are also functioning as normal and companies are able to send and receive spare parts and other packages on and off the island with no restrictions.

A summary from Gulsan Atalay, manager of the Balearic Marine Cluster:
Phase 1, from the 11th of May: Recreational use of boats, both private and commercial, is allowed with limited groups of people and after implementing safety and hygiene measures (disinfection of boats). In this phase, the boat can cruise in the same province or island.
Phase 2, from the 25th of May: Recreational cruising is permitted for larger groups of people residing in the same province but not necessarily in the same municipality anymore. Cruising is restricted to the waters of same province or island. In this phase, navigational training courses are also permitted.
