With Spring around the corner, the next few weeks in February & March are the perfect time for crews to be brushing up on their skills prior to the start of the busy charter and Summer holiday season.
Several training centres have been highly recommended to us by Captains and Crews, providing a whole host of courses from STCW basic crew training to specialised courses in security, medical training and fire fighting – or anything from a PADI diving course to becoming a wine expert.
Kick start your career with entry level courses, keep on course with refreshers or advance your skills with a choice of new or upgraded qualifications at one of these training centres.

D & B Services We’ve had excellent feedback about D & B Services based in Antibes, who are both MCA & RYA accredited to run courses, including MCA approved STCW basics, Powerboat, GSK, HELM ECDIS, GMDSS GOC and the RYA Yachtmaster Practical, Ocean and Offshore.

Antibes - St Maarten - Other bespoke locations
If you want to brush up your wine knowledge take a course with VSF Group. Well known and appreciated as expert wine suppliers, VSF offers Level 1 – 3 WSET wine courses for Chefs, Sous-Chefs, and Chief Stewardesses in Antibes and St Maarten. The Wine and Spirits Education Trust is a globally recognised examination body, meaning any candidate who passes one of these exams will receive an official qualification – a great addition to any yachting or hospitality CV. Club de Mar Medical
Dr. Johanna Clark is an experienced GP with an extensive background in occupational and travel medicine, as well as in medical education and health & safety. She and her team are MCA Approved Tutors and run MCA Approved Medical Courses most months.
Courses include Elementary First Aid, Medical First Aid, and Medical Care Onboard (Ship´s Captains) and Update.

Palma - Southampton - Fort Lauderdale - Bespoke locations
MSOS (Medical Support Offshore) not only provides comprehensive medical support to yachts and their crews, but offers bespoke specialist medical classroom training in the UK and Ft Lauderdale as well as on board anywhere in the world, ranging from superyachts to family world cruises. Currently scheduled in Palma on 23rd February, 30th March & 27th April are EFA (Elementary First Aid), MFA (Medical First Aid), MC (Medical Care) and UMC (Update in Medical Care), all MCA approved.

With a longstanding history of first class training, and the only centre of its kind in the world, Warsash Maritime Academy offers 150 accredited deck, engineering, interior and maritime training courses approved by various governing bodies. Ondeck, located in Falmouth Harbour, is an RYA & MCA accredited Maritime training centre, providing both practical and theoretical courses. It is the only training company able to offer facilities in both Southampton, UK and the Caribbean. Mile building instructional sailing trips plus all RYA courses and other short courses including PPR, VHF Radio, Powerboat level 2 and online navigation courses are just some of what’s on offer. St Martin, French West Indies
Maritime School of the West Indies "A highly professional set up” and “An excellent crew training facility” are two of the Captains’ comments we picked up this year for this respected training school located in Marina Royale in Marigot, St.Martin.
Despite the hurricane damage to the island the school with the first STCW 2010 course date on 11th December and courses running until May. There are also plenty of MCA approved courses from IYT Master of Yachts 200 Ton Offshore and Ocean to the Small Powerboat and RIB / Tender license and plenty of other standard and specialised courses.
