Guadeloupe

Island Hopping with a Base at Pointe-à-Pitre

Guadeloupe, an Archipelago to Explore

Guadeloupe is a French overseas department and region centred on the adjoining islands of Grande-Terre and Basse-Terre, with Les Saintes and Marie-Galante offering separate cruising stops to the south. Grande-Terre brings coastal towns, sandy bays and open Atlantic shores; Basse-Terre rises into volcanic mountains and rainforest, with scuba diving along its western coast. Les Saintes offers a sheltered bay and villages to explore, while Marie-Galante has a quieter character shaped by sugarcane and rum-making. This variety of coastlines, landscapes, activities and French Creole culture rewards an itinerary of several days.

Destination Highlights

  • Archipelago Cruising
  • Les Saintes & Marie-Galante
  • Rainforest & Volcanic Landscapes
  • Scuba Diving
  • Large-Yacht Berthing
  • Refit & Technical Services

Pointe-à-Pitre offers large-yacht berthing close to technical support, French-style supermarkets and an international airport, making it a practical place to provision, arrange guest changes or schedule technical work. For crew, the range of supplies and specialist support helps with preparations for the next leg. Guadeloupe fits an itinerary south from Antigua and Montserrat towards Dominica and Martinique, while its own islands merit several days rather than a brief stop.

International Access

Guadeloupe Maryse Condé Airport near Pointe-à-Pitre handles international and regional flights. Its airport operator lists ground handling for private aircraft and an area for general aviation.
