Dominica
Volcanic Landscapes and Expedition-Style Cruising
Dominica: The Nature Island by Superyacht

Dominica stands out as an exceptional eco-tourism destination, with some of the Caribbean’s most dramatic and least-developed landscapes. Deep water meets a steep, rainforest-covered interior of rivers, waterfalls, volcanic peaks and geothermal features. Prince Rupert Bay in the north and Roseau further south provide the principal bases for exploring the island, including the Indian River, Kalinago Territory and UNESCO-listed Morne Trois Pitons National Park. Hiking, canyoning, whale watching and volcanic diving give Dominica particular appeal for active charter itineraries.

- Whale and Dolphin Watching
- Volcanic Diving
- Rainforest Adventures
- Kalinago Heritage
Dominica is best approached as an experience-led cruising destination rather than a conventional luxury or marina hub. A superyacht provides the flexibility to combine its sheltered leeward coast with guided inland adventures, specialist diving and marine-life encounters, while avoiding dependence on the island’s limited shoreside accommodation and transport infrastructure.
Prince Rupert Bay is the principal yacht anchorage, with organised moorings, security patrols and practical shoreside assistance. Roseau provides access to the capital, southern dive sites and many of the island’s best-known inland attractions
Located between Guadeloupe and Martinique, Dominica fits naturally into a Windward Islands itinerary. However, its range of land and water-based experiences makes it more than an overnight passage stop; allowing several days gives owners and guests time to experience the island properly.
International Access
Douglas–Charles Airport handles international and regional services, including direct US connections. Canefield Airport, closer to Roseau, accommodates regional and chartered aircraft; private-flight handling should be arranged in advance.
Yachting Infrastructure
Prince Rupert Bay has organised moorings and yacht support, while Roseau and Portsmouth provide commercial berthing and fuel access by arrangement. Yacht agents and local providers offer provisioning, clearance, chandlery and limited engineering and small-craft haul-out. A purpose-built superyacht marina is under construction near Portsmouth: designed for yachts up to 150ft / 45.7m LOA. Phase One is currently expected in Q1 2027.
- Maximum berthing: Woodbridge Bay Port has a 244 m commercial wharf with a published minimum depth alongside of 10m. The port authority reports having handled vessels up to 345m LOA, but this is not a confirmed maximum yacht-berthing limit. All yacht calls require prior port approval and operational confirmation.
- Maximum haul-out: No superyacht haul-out facility is available in Dominica.
- A local boatyard offers limited small-craft haul-out, repairs and storage
Yachts entering the Soufrière–Scott’s Head Marine Reserve should note that anchoring is prohibited. Visits, diving and use of designated moorings must follow the reserve’s regulations and should be coordinated with an authorised local operator.
