Community Joins Forces for Impactful Clean Up Australia Day at Coral Sea Marina

Coral Sea Marina reaffirmed its commitment to environmental conservation by hosting their annual "Clean Up Australia Day" event on Sunday, March 2, 2025. Partnering with the Tangaroa Blue Foundation, the marina welcomed an enthusiastic group of 61 volunteers who dedicated their morning to removing waste from local beaches, parks, pathways, and surrounding areas. Their collective efforts resulted in an astounding 250.5kg of litter being cleared from the pristine Whitsundays environment.

All waste collected was meticulously sorted and documented in the Australian Marine Debris Initiative (AMDI) database. This crucial data contributes to long-term solutions aimed at reducing marine debris at its source and identifying strategies to combat pollution in Australia’s waterways.

Tangaroa Blue Foundation's AMDI app plays a vital role in tracking and analyzing pollution sources, helping to shape effective preventative measures. Through such initiatives, communities can actively participate in protecting the environment while supporting broader conservation efforts.

“Seeing another fantastic turnout for Clean Up Australia Day is incredibly inspiring,” said Joscelyn O’Keefe, Head of Marketing and Business Development at Coral Sea Marina. “This event is about more than just picking up rubbish—it’s about raising awareness, fostering responsibility, and ensuring a cleaner, healthier marine ecosystem for future generations.”

As Australia’s first Sustainable Tourism Certified marina, Coral Sea Marina remains committed to environmental leadership. Through ongoing partnerships with conservation organizations and the implementation of eco-friendly initiatives, the marina continues to champion sustainability and marine protection.

Individuals looking to make an impact can start by reducing single-use plastics, properly disposing of waste, and participating in community clean-up events. Choosing eco-conscious products and supporting businesses that prioritize sustainability are also effective ways to contribute to environmental preservation.

“Community-driven efforts like these prove that small actions lead to significant change,” added Ms. O’Keefe. “Let’s make every day an opportunity to protect our environment, not just on Clean Up Australia Day.”
