Port Whangarei, New Zealand – Superyachts are back!
As the number of Superyachts entering the Pacific continues to rise, many have elected to spend the summer cyclone season in the safe waters of New Zealand. At the same time maintenance, refit works and crew rotations are being undertaken. New Zealand presents an ideal choice for its proximity to beloved coral island destinations and its updated, modernised facilities that cater to every requirement. As a result, this location is increasingly appealing to the Pacific fleet. This, backed up by its legendary craftsmanship and marine supply infrastructure, makes ‘getting things done’ that much easier in a New Zealand port.

Port Whangarei, where Oceania Marine Shipyards are located, is a destination where Superyachts can berth for an extended period and have all their needs attended to. The city of Whangarei is located close by, with its famous ‘Town Basin’, café culture and good quality crew houses available if needed. The wider environs of Northland is one of New Zealand’s top recreational destinations, offering active crew plenty to do in their down time.
At Oceania Marine the coatings team in particular is busy completing full repaints on Superyacht projects as well as a number of smaller vessels. Refit sheds Bay 2 and 3 accommodate the 31M Southern Wind sailing Yacht ‘Seatius’ and the 21M Gunboat sailing catamaran ‘Slim’. These projects will extend well into the winter with an extensive range of works involved. For both vessels the paint system being applied is the Awlcraft SE basecoat/clearcoat system.

With the 60M explorer yacht ‘Senses’ also hauled out for a major refit at neighbouring shipyard, Heron Ship Repair, it demonstrates Port Whangarei’s extensive haul out capacity as well as its ability to supply labour and materials at scale to service projects. Meanwhile, Oceania Marine’s dual 100t and 560T travel lifts stand ready to accommodate your Superyacht project, be it a short technical stop for survey and antifoul, or a more extensive refit.
