Commodore Theatre

This was a great find that came thoroughly well recommended as being an unforgettable cinema and ‘night out’ experience. The Commodore is a period ‘Art Deco style’ theatre, located at 421 High Street, Olde Towne, Portsmouth. The walls of the theatre and lobby are adorned with wonderful 20-40ft ornate murals with opulent chandeliers made from Italian leaded crystal commanding the ceilings and all the seating in the main floor dining area is arranged around individual tables. On each table is a house phone. You can pick up the phone and order drinks or an evening meal to accompany your movie. Everything is then brought straight to your seat by the house staff!

The Commodore specializes in screening first run films and they have a large ‘state of the art’ screen with THX digital sound system. It really feels like you are in a different world when you are comfortably seated and enjoying the ‘atmosphere’ here and it makes for a thoroughly enjoyable ‘event’ definitively taking the ‘dinner and movie’ concept onto another level! This is a ‘must do’ activity if you get the chance when in Portsmouth or Norfolk. The theatre hosts matinees and evening showings.
