The National Sailing Academy
The National Sailing Academy is a registered non-profit / charity formed to give Antiguan school children the opportunity to learn swimming and sailing free of charge. It is run by a board of volunteers and funded entirely by private subscription. Look out for the sponsored Optimists and Picos in Falmouth Harbour. The Academy also has a satellite base at Jolly Harbour and so now has a total capacity of 300 students a week. In the summer of 2013, the Academy moved to new Headquarters and continues to offer various training courses and other activities, both on and off the water.
In early 2014 they also introduced a programme called ‘Sailability’ which offers free sailing to the disabled children and adults of Antigua. All visiting yachts are kindly asked to donate US$1 per foot LOA per year to help continue the Academy programme. Donations can be paid in any currency by cash, credit card or bank transfer. All donors are acknowledged and greatly appreciated.
