Fort San Lorenzo

Fort San Lorenzo, located about 8 miles to the West of Colon, lies alongside the now abandoned town of Chagres which was once the main Atlantic port on the Isthmus of Panama. The Fort guarded both the town and the entrance to the Chagres River. The well-preserved ruins of the Fort are just a short drive through the rainforest from Shelter Bay Marina, and the site is well maintained with information boards to help guide visitors through the grounds. The surrounding jungle is vibrant and alive with bird & animal life!
