Overview
Every year the 120 year old Norwegian built, historic 85ft vessel VEGA and her volunteer crew sail about 7,000 miles to collect and then deliver between 15 - 20 tons of donated tools, educational and medical supplies, to isolated communities in East Timor & remote islands in Eastern Indonesia.
The donated supplies are loaded on board in Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia and Singapore; they help support local level community development, health and educational services, such as teaching aids for rural teachers, and advanced training workshops for traditional midwives.
A fully qualified Indonesian doctor travels with S.Y. Vega every year.
Vega and her crew rely on donations and sponsors from a network of friend supporters & the global community - people with the spirit and means to help others less fortunate than themselves.
Donations cover Vega’s running costs, but her crew are all volunteers.
