The New Zealand Millennium Cup
Held annually in late January - 30th January - 2nd February 2019
The most southerly Superyacht regatta in existence, the New Zealand Millennium Cup is a celebration of good racing, great cruising grounds and exceptional hospitality. Held in one of the world’s great natural playgrounds, the Bay of Islands, it’s fast gaining a reputation as a bucket list regatta for any adventurous Superyacht.
The 2018 event saw competitors battle it out for the Cup amongst the 144 islands of the Bay as dolphins and other wildlife escorted them on the course. Racing was close and fiercely competitive while on land the competition turned to camaraderie as owners and crew enjoyed the best of New Zealand hospitality.

“Having been involved with most other Superyacht regattas globally, I can honestly say that the 2018 NZ Millennium Cup was the most enjoyable event I’ve ever done. The organisation of the racing and evening events was second to none. We thoroughly look forward to taking part again,” said Captain Tim Michalick of competitor S/Y Sassafras.
Creator of the ISYR, Jim Teeters was onsite to ensure racing was as close as possible, though in the end it was first time entrant Ammonite who took 2018’s title.
“There’s no better place in the world to sail,” said Ammonite owner Marcus Blackmore at the prize giving, going on to say that Ammonite would enjoy defending the title next year if possible.
