About Formentera

The small picturesque island of Formentera lies eleven nautical miles and a short boat trip away from the port of Ibiza. Formentera has a population of approximately 5,300. The main town is San Francisco Javier and is 3 km from the port La Savina. During summer this little developed, low lying island is transformed from a sleepy backwater into a thriving tourist destination, serviced by the many small fast ferries that speed between Ibiza and La Savina. Whilst there is little of scenic interest ashore, the low-lying northern promontory offers some of the Balearics most beautiful beaches and anchorages.

During July and August the crystal clear waters and white sands attract a following of the young fashionable 'glitterati' drawn to Formentera to sample the relaxing atmosphere away from the bustle of neighbouring Ibiza. The popular trendy ramshackle beach bars that abound on the island's beaches serve fresh fish, shellfish and other local specialities. The anchorage to the west is generally well protected making it a perfect place to drop anchor directly off the beach for guests to enjoy a lunchtime swim or a peaceful night at anchor, with the option of stepping ashore to sample freshly grilled lobster and a glass of champagne whilst watching the sun go down!
