About Saint/St.Vincent

The island archipelago of St. Vincent & the Grenadines is centrally located in the Caribbean chain and continues to build upon a serious commitment to the regional development of its marine services infrastructures.

On the south coast of mainland St. Vincent, the Blue Lagoon Marina and Yachting Centre (with Customs & Immigration onsite) is an excellent facility. The Sandy Lane Yacht Club Superyacht Marina provides big boat dockage facilities in Canouan alongside a thriving jetport; mainland St. Vincent’s Argyle International Airport (AIA) offers further hub support and international airlift options. As one of the bastions of true Caribbean ‘Tradewind cruising’, St. Vincent & the Grenadines retains a high level of appeal, abounding in crystal blue anchorages, reef-fringed islands, fair winds and friendly seas.

St. Vincent, itself, is often described as ‘The Gateway to the Grenadines’, and always makes for a characterful and interesting stopover for any yacht.

The island is abundant with natural rugged beauty. From the Soufriere volcano in the north of the island, to the splendour of the Trinity Falls thundering down within the tropical rainforest, there is a lot to see on the mainland – and an island tour comes well recommended. There is also incredible beauty to be found below the water – diving in St. Vincent is said to be some of the best in the Caribbean.

Capital city Kingstown, often called the ‘City of Arches’, is a traditionally natural town – alive with the colour and throng of bustling Caribbean market culture. Everything and everyone blends busily into its historic, colonial-style architecture and shaded courtyards and alleyways; with a simplicity and happiness that is distinctive of St. Vincent’s Caribbean culture. Guests can also take a drive into the countryside to visit the delightful Montreal Gardens (located in the hills above the verdant Mesopotamia Valley) or visit the Botanical Gardens in Kingstown (reportedly the oldest botanical garden in the western hemisphere) – where they still have a plant from the original breadfruit tree brought by Captain William Bligh in 1793!

Yacht services and assistance is available from a choice of St. Vincent & the Grenadines providers (see ‘Yacht Services / Concierge Services’ section) and there are also some resourceful provisioners available on island (see ‘Provisioning’ section). The top rated wine merchant – Gonsalves Liquors – is also on hand in Kingstown to supply yachts of fine vintage wines, including Cristal champagne (see ‘Wines / Spirits / Beverages’ section).

After sunset, dinner at a choice of recommended south coast restaurants along the Villa / Ratho Mill stretch includes ‘The French Verandah’ restaurant at the Mariners Hotel, ‘The Deck’ restaurant at Beachcombers or ‘The Loft’ restaurant at the Blue Lagoon Marina & Resort.
