Brimstone Hill Fortress

St. Kitts

Located on the N.W side of St. Kitts, Brimstone Hill Fortress is a UNESCO World Heritage Site of "universal cultural value" and well worth a visit.

Steeped in historical value, this site is one of the earliest, most extensive and best preserved colonial structures in the Caribbean, having been built back in 1690.

It really is worth a stop on an island tour, to enjoy the spectacular views and get a feel for this historic fortress, which saw 9,000 soldiers battling here back in 1782. There is a visitor's centre, canteen / snack bar, museum and gift shop stocked with local craft, historical prints, books, CDs and more. Open daily from 0930-1730hrs.
