Virgin Islands Search & Rescue
Virgin Islands Search & Rescue is a voluntary, non-government run organization dedicated to Saving Lives at Sea. It is the officially recognised ‘search and rescue’ service in the BVI, where it provides 24-hour cover every day of the year in close co-operation with the Royal British Virgin Islands police, fire and ambulance services.
VISAR has two rescue boats, and each one carries full medical kits, an AED (automatic emergency defibrillator), back-boards, rescue basket, straps and oxygen cylinders.
As a volunteer-based organization, VISAR is funded entirely by charitable donations.
