A jewel in the South Pacific, Fiji is on track to open its borders on 1st December...

Caroline Blatter

Like all other countries, Fiji also wasn't spared from the coronavirus and in March 2020 reported their first case of the Alpha virus. Their borders were promptly closed to international flights, subsequently bringing the tourism industry to a standstill and many jobs in the tourism sector were furloughed.
To safely reopen their waters to marine travellers, Fiji established the “Blue Lanes” in July 2020 for yachts and pleasure craft seeking to explore these beautiful islands.
The Blue Lanes initiative was pioneered through the Fijian COVID Safe Economic Recovery Framework to allow a safe restart for Fiji’s growing blue tourism industry.

Part of what makes Fiji unique is its many groups of islands, each with its own culture, identity and attractions, with cruising one of the best ways to get around them.

Fiji offers a world where time stands still and as the locals say, 'a place where happiness finds you!'
A destination providing everything from world class surfing, diving, water sports and unrivalled scenery and culture, Fiji offers visitors a vast arrange of cruising options.

With a total of 330 islands, there’s more to Fiji than can ever be seen on a short trip! The main cruising season is between May and November, though the islands are increasingly being cruised year round.

You will never be far from a beautiful reef, lush rainforest, or white sandy beach for which Fiji is famed and the friendliness of its people is world renown.

As one Captain told us, " Fiji is all you could imagine of a tropical island paradise, gentle warm breezes, crystal clear sea lapping on deserted beaches, swaying palms, azure lagoons and friendly smiling people..."

The conditions of entry are very simple - Fiji is OPEN to fully vaccinated travelers.

Engage with a Fiji Yacht Agent to carry out your pre-approval process, undergo an RT-PCR test before departure.
If you travel to Fiji on the Blue Lane, you must quarantine on your yacht for 14 days.

The good news is that travel time from your destination is counted in that period if you’ve isolated and had uninterrupted travel from your departure port.

Upon arrival a second RT-PCR test is done to ensure you are free from COVID before clearing into Fiji and enjoying uninterrupted travel throughout the islands.

Vaccine Rollout in Fiji & Travel

Fiji has made great progress in their vaccination rollout that began earlier this year with a total of 96.2% of the targeted population already receiving their 1st dose and 82.3% receiving their second dose (14 October 2021).

International air borders are earmarked to open from the 1st of December 2021 quarantine free to tourists from travel-partner countries, these include Australia, New Zealand, United States of America, United Kingdom, the United Arab Emirates, Canada, Qatar, Germany, Spain, France, the Republic of Korea, Singapore, Switzerland, Japan and most Pacific Island Countries and Territories.

Fiji also has a special criterion under the VIP Blue Lane which allows very high net worth individuals to come into Fiji on their private jets, board their superyachts and travel with a quarantine boat that moves around with them. These conditions will also ease from 1st December 2021 with a framework to be finalized mid-November.

Out of the South Pacific tropical cyclone belt, it is a great country to take time out before exploring more remote island groups beyond Fiji.
