Superyacht Services Guide Supports Grow Boating Thailand Event

Caroline Blatter

On the 1st of March, the Superyacht Services Guide (SSG) Asia team co-sponsored the monthly Thailand Yachting Business Association (TYBA) networking event, along with The Speakeasy Yacht Club, at Royal Phuket Marina.

To add a bit of interaction and fun, Marieke Derks and Zara Tremlett, authors for the Superyacht Services Guide for the regions Asia, Indian Ocean and Australia, challenged event visitors to participate in a Quiz Game, of course with the incentive of possibly winning a great prize…. Guests were encouraged to take a “quiz card” and SSG guide book and then, while enjoying a beverage at the bar, to take time to “research” their answer in the Superyacht Services Guide. Immensely positive feedback was received and great fun had by all those that entered & attended, giving the evening a wonderful feel of positive energy.

Zara says: “The Superyacht Services Guide is THE go-to, trusted information source for captains and crew around the world and has forever been used in the Med, the Caribbean and North America. The guide for Asia-Pacific, being a newer cruising destination, is in development and Grow Boating provided us with an excellent opportunity. Through the Quiz questions we asked people from Phuket’s yachting industry to imagine what it’s like to work on a superyacht, as captain or crew visiting a new location, and all of a sudden a specific service is needed to keep the yacht running and the boss happy.”

Marieke adds: “Although there is a lot of work to be done on Asia’s (super)yachting destination development in terms of regulations, infrastructure and environmental work, our aim is to focus on what is already available. Our team’s goals is to help inform the 5000 superyachts out there that Asia is an exciting, stunning and culturally diverse yachting destination that they can already visit, with quality, reliable superyacht services already available for all departments: bridge, engineering and interior.”

She continues: “That is also exactly why we introduced this fun game: we need to work together as yachting industry, including captains & crew, to understand the needs of visiting superyachts, research the services available and make the information accessible to superyacht captains, crew and yacht- and charter managers globally.

Towards the end of event, Ben McCrory, manager of Royal Phuket Marina, helped with the blind draw and the lucky winner of the Superyacht Services Guide Quiz, Grenville Fordham of Image Asia and publisher of the South East Asia Pilot, will get to have lunch with Marieke & Zara at The Nai Harn Resort, a five star hotel in the South of Phuket, welcoming (super)yachts and a firm supporter of the Superyacht Services Guide.
