Menorca

Menorca is the quietest and least developed of all the Balearic Islands. The coastline is diverse and beautiful, with spectacularly rugged cliffs and beaches to the north and quiet sandy beaches, coves and inlets to the south. Although there are few Superyacht services on Menorca, the island is still a popular cruising ground for many Superyacht owners and guests seeking a quiet and relaxing time. Inland, the island is scattered with many fascinating archaeological relics, caves and monuments, dating back to 2000 B.C. The one time capital of Ciutadella is to the far west of the island and the port is small and busy with ferry traffic from neighbouring Mallorca. One of the most popular anchorages for Superyachts is the Bahia Fornells, where guests can dine ashore in some of the island's best seafood restaurants that line the shore of this attractive fishing port. Here the local specialty is lobster - especially a Menorcan lobster stew - but the tempting aroma of grilled sardines at lunchtime also suggests further fresh fish options!

Within the main port of Mahon, at the eastern end of the island, stern-to berthing is now available for yachts up to 30 metres; and alongside, short term berthing for larger Superyachts can be arranged by prior appointment through the port authorities. The Moll de Llevant runs the entire length of the northern side of the port and nearly all the services recommended in Mahon can be found along this busy waterfront street. The port of Mahon services the capital Mao, and the international airport - seven kilometres to the west of the city - offers frequent flights to mainland Spain as well as charter flights to many European destinations. The large and naturally deep harbour of Mahon is steeped in British maritime history with many heritage sites and buildings still in view today. The British influence can also be witnessed when wandering the quiet streets of the cliff top town where the Georgian style town houses still have the typical 'sash style' windows of that time. Located just over 100 nautical miles from the Ports of Palma and Ibiza respectively, the peaceful island of Menorca offers attractive, quieter cruising grounds to those of her neighbouring sister isles.
