SAILS / CANVAS
For the past 18 years Bob Phillips has been running the Doyle Sail loft in Tortola, and has built a great reputation amongst the numerous professional yacht crews they have worked with. The loft was founded in 1973 and their nine members of staff are highly trained with most having more than twenty years of experience. They can provide quotations and specifications for any new sails on any size of professionally crewed yacht, which are then built at whichever of the company’s manufacturing lofts can provide the best combination of location and price. Doyle BVI can repair sails for yachts up to around 50 metres LOA, and also offers a full range of the highest quality custom canvas works. Doyle BVI has innovatively pioneered the use of fabrics from other industries that are vastly superior to the more usual marine fabrics, lasting two to three times longer, and the products they build are assembled with a combination of welded seams and stitching with Gore-Tex thread, both of which are guaranteed for the life of the fabric. Doyle BVI also works in partnership with local machine shops and have produced some stunning fabric and welded frame structures. As Bob says, “We live here, we work here, and we know that both looks and longevity are equally important”. In
all, this is a thoroughly professional set up, for which we continue to
receive excellent review again last season from numerous Captains of some
the largest yachts around. As Captains have told us: “Doyle BVI
is a highly reliable, professional set up to work with.” “Doyle
BVI did such a great job renewing all our canvas work on board that when

Here in Tortola, the business is growing fast through their commitment to quality works. We received another round of excellent reports for their sail repair works again last season; and their high level of customer service. For any yachts considering new sails, Doug Stewart still does the design work for all sails sold in the BVI... being in charge of cloth selection for Superyacht construction worldwide. Having focused on canvas work and upholstery over the past 20 years, we again picked up some very good recommendations for his works, both above and below deck. Offering full interior upholstery services, Roy’s Canvas can custom make bunk mattresses, fitted loose cushions and headlinings; and above deck can make / recover cockpit cushions and fabricate canvas covers including bimini tops and awnings.
