St. Vincent The island archipelago of St. Vincent and the Grenadines is centrally located in the Caribbean chain; and in the last two years, has unveiled a serious commitment to its regional marine services infrastructure, with some exciting new marina projects in the formative stages of development throughout the Grenadines region as well as expanding existing airport facilities. As one of the bastions of true Caribbean ‘tradewind’ cruising, St.Vincent and the Grenadines retains a high level of appeal, abounding in crystal blue anchorages, reef fringed islands, fair winds and friendly seas. St.Vincent, itself, has often been signatured as ‘The Gateway to the Grenadines,’ and always makes for a characterful and interesting stopover for any yacht. The island abounds with natural rugged beauty... from the Soufriere volcano up in the north of the island, to the splendour of the Trinity Falls thundering down within the tropical rain forest - there is a lot to see, and an island tour comes well recommended. It also has some incredible beauty ‘below the water’ and the diving here in St. Vincent was said to be some of the best in the Caribbean. The capital, Kingstown, often called the 'City of Arches' is a wonderfully natural town, alive with the colour and throng of Caribbean bustle and market culture... with everything and everyone blending busily into its historic, colonial style architecture, shaded courtyards and alleyways... and all with a simplicity and happiness that signature some of the most enduring delights of St.Vincent's Caribbean culture. There is also a delightful Botanical Garden - the oldest in the western hemisphere - in which they still have a plant from the original breadfruit tree brought by Captain William Bligh, back in 1793. In 'Sam’s Taxi Tours' there is a highly recommended yacht services company on hand to help in any way one might need (see 'Yacht Services' section). There is also some first class provisioning available from the 'Aunt Jobe’s’ Market in Kingstown (see 'Provisioning' section); a top rated wine merchant in Gonsalves Liquors (see 'Wines / Spirits / Beverages' section); and also the Barefoot Marine Centre and well respected Doyle / North / Quantum Sails loft, down at Young Island Cut. Also on site at Barefoot, is the well recommended Indigo Dive Centre, offering flexible diving packages and any other shoreside support one may require (see 'Diving' section). After sunset, dinner at the French Verandah restaurant in Young Island Cut comes very well recommended; and the 'Xcape' bar - just nextdoor - offers some great evening ambience, with drinks and cool music available until late and a casual dining menu, served throughout the day and evening. We also picked up another good round of feedback for SVG Air - the highly regarded private aircraft charter company based here in St.Vincent – who came well recommended for their custom charters and personal service, covering all islands throughout the Caribbean.
