St. Kitts & Nevis St. Kitts & Nevis are two of the most natural and least developed islands in the Caribbean... with a past steeped in history, giving them plenty of appeal for yachts to come to explore and discover. Whilst this had rarely happened previously due to the lack of suitable dockage... this has all changed of late, with the completion of some excellent new marina berthing / docks - at Port Zante in Basseterre, St.Kitts - where they are now capable of handling yachts from 50' right up to 500'+ (see 'Marina' section). This recent development should hopefully now allow many more yachts to come and experience a wonderful taste of the island's history, and it's tropically lush rainforest interior. Exciting news this year, now sees an inspiring new marina / real estate development underway; which also has great potential as a very interesting investment opportunity (see ‘Marina / Real Estate Development’ section). Looking back in history, St.Kitts was the site of the very first British colony in the West Indies... where they settled in 1623; and still has Plantation Inns (see 'Hotels / Resorts' section) on each island, that one can visit for some of the most memorable highlights of any Caribbean cruise. There are wonderful island tours to be made into the rainforest interior - either by car or foot - to see the green monkeys, amazing flora and fauna; and the beautifully restored UNESCO World Heritage Site, 'The Brimstone Hill Fortress' - originally built to exacting standards by African slaves back in the late 1600's. There are a number of well recommended 'Island Tour' options for each island; and in 'Greg Safari', an incredibly helpful and well informed contact for any provisioning, laundry or other yacht services one might need. Besides the attraction of bringing owners or guests here on charter, Port Zante also offers some of the most competitively priced fuel in the centre of the island chain; making it a useful place to call by for a couple of days after an owners/guests cruise, to refuel, do some regular maintenance not requiring outside services, and to keep one's crew fresh and happy by giving them a day ashore to explore the islands themselves... and maybe get across to Sunshine's Beach Bar on Nevis for one of his world famous, 'Killer Bee' punches! Other fun attractions for visiting yachts are the two 'recommended' restaurants - accessible by water from Basseterre harbour (see 'Restaurants' section). St.Kitts and Nevis have 2 of the Caribbean's top Golf Courses - which are also open for yachting guests to come and enjoy (see 'Hotel / Resorts' section). For yachts based in Antigua, St. Maarten or the Virgin Islands, St. Kitts also makes for a centrally located island to which crew could escape, by flying to for a day or so, to restore one's sanity after an intensely busy period on board. With this in mind, we have organized special terms for accommodation at the beautiful Ottley's Plantation Inn in St. Kitts, for crew to take advantage of (see text for details). This has been very popular in past seasons... and has even seen one high profile Captain / wife getting married here!
