Wayfarer Marine in Camden are a yard that have long enjoyed links with the Caribbean, often hauling yachts for work after extended cruising further south. The yard is run by Sandy McGaw, who was a familiar face in the Caribbean, after running the yard at Antigua Slipway for some years. Here in Camden, they are well renowned for their quality work and have a 110 ton Ascom Marine lift that can haul sailing yachts up to @100', and power to @90'; plus operate a full service centre employing over 100 staff that are happy to take on anything from small jobs to major refits (their speciality). They do all their works 'in-house', with specialist technicians trained in mechanical engineering, welding / fabrication, fine joinery, GRP repairs, full paintworks, electrical / electronics, custom canvas works, rigging... and a whole lot more. Past seasons have seen us picking up consistently 'top end' feedback for their broad range of services, with Captains telling us... “We were based in the Caribbean through the past winter season, and were considering heading across to St. Maarten for a summer refit... however, the thought of all the hurricane possibilities soon saw us heading up north to Camden. Here, Wayfarer have been carrying out a whole range of top quality refit works; and for myself and my wife, we’ve just loved the location to be based from... it’s a truly beautiful place.” "We researched a number of main yards on both sides of the Atlantic, before appointing Wayfarers to take on the complete refit. The job ended up taking 5 months (exactly as planned), and I can also speak for the owner of the boat in saying that we really couldn't have wished for a more professional 'all round' service." Many people think of Camden as being much farther up the east coast than Newport, but on a rhumb line from Antigua, there is only 50 miles in it. If you are heading up to Camden from either the Caribbean or Bermuda, Wayfarer will happily arrange to have Customs and Immigration meet you on the dock upon arrival to get you cleared in. Thereafter, they have moorings, harbour floats, marina slips and alongside berthing. Dockside services then include gas and diesel, water, shore power, waste pump-out, laundry and showers. They also maintain an extensive inventory of parts and provide worldwide delivery, as required.
