PROVISIONING

Located just behind the American Yacht Harbor at East End, the Marina Market is an excellent provisioning facility to be aware of when cruising the British and U.S. Virgin Islands. The store continued to come highly recommended again last season by numerous yacht crews we spoke to; both for it's easy access whilst cruising around East End, it's 'user friendly' opening hours (0630-2100 hrs.daily), and for their wide range of quality produce. They have an excellent range of fresh meats, seafood, fruit, vegetables, and locally grown herbs. Their Deli came very well reviewed for it’s hams, pates, gourmet cheeses, salads and sandwiches; and we picked up some excellent feedback for their 'in-house' bakery - that produces a wide selection of freshly baked goods, from delicious baguettes and breads, right through to custom cakes for any special occasion.

Other stocks also include a wide range of dairy produce; a good selection of wines from all over the world; plus a dedicated 'Party Pantry' comprising of many useful and fun items to suit the event. Any specialist provisioning items can also be catered for by prior arrangement, and orders can be either emailed or faxed in advance for collection on a given day.

Just call Amanda Hall, the store manager, if you have any queries or orders, and she will be happy to advise and arrange your provisions for you. On top of this, the Marina Market offers provisioning discounts on case price volume orders. All major Credit cards accepted.

The Fruit Bowl has been serving the local market and yachting community under the same original ownership of James, David and Marty since 1975. It has super helpful and friendly management and a wonderful community feel - the aisles always bustling with locals and visitors alike.

Whilst still supplying a truly wonderful range of fresh fruit, vegetables and hydroponics; they also stock a wide variety of specialist produce items, dairy products, fresh herbs, packaged meat, fresh bread / rolls, groceries, ice creams, nuts, cold drinks and snacks. Gift fruit baskets, fruit or vegetable platters can be made to order... and they also offer a custom provisioning service for Superyacht cooks / chefs, whereby they will access literally anything else one might require, including choice meats and fish.

They have a strong commitment to high quality produce and customer service, and we picked up some excellent feedback for them again last season... with an increasing number of charter yachts really tuning in to this excellent provisioning outlet - "This place is one of our highlights in St.Thomas... they have a really extensive selection of high quality produce."

Another Captain told us how “Dave has always done a superb job for us. He even pulled through on 2 last minute charters, when he had to alter his schedule, and I really appreciate that. I’ve been using him since early in 2000... he’s one of the best, very professional guys around, and always completes the job to our expectations. I owe him a big thanks... he is the only choice for any fruits and veggies.”

Whilst encouraging their customers to come to their recently expanded store at the Wheatley Center, near Yacht Haven - to see the quality of their produce, in person... they also know this isn't always possible, so with orders telephoned / faxed or emailed in advance, they will happily deliver to any marina on St. Thomas on any day, at any time.

The store is open 7 days a week, and they accept VISA and Mastercard, local cheques or cash. The Fruit Bowl is a dedicated high quality provisioning outlet run by a management team that are firmly committed to providing an ever improving service to their yachting clientele.

This rather empowering little store - which has been voted 'Best vegetarian cuisine in St.Thomas' has come consistently well recommended by numerous yacht crews in past seasons. Based just a few minutes walk away from Crown Bay Marina, the store is divided into both a health shop and deli where they stock a great variety of natural foods, frozen and refrigerated groceries; and also have a host of delicious fresh daily specials (for which, orders can be placed in advance)... from their dedicated ‘Soul Vegetarian’ Deli (100% Vegan) including salads, sandwiches, and some of the tastiest veggie burgers one could wish for! Other highly popular lines include a super selection of 'supplements' including the legendary Miracle Greens + Miracle Reds, Ginseng, Yohimbe, Horny Goat Weed, herbal teas and lots of other energy enhancing vitamins. Finally, after a long day in the sun, they have a lovely range of natural oils and body lotions... to take the heat out of the day ! Best of all, store owner Allan Buckingham couldn't be more enthusiastic for what they do, and he is only too happy to share his knowledge in finding exactly what one might need.

This store - located on the Weymouth Rhymer Highway - came highly recommended to us by numerous yachts (many of whom had also been using their store across in St.Maarten). They have a huge selection of goods at very attractive prices - wholesale and retail - and are open from 0900- 2100 Mon-Sat, and from 0900-1900hrs on Sunday.

Yachts out at East End, can access this large Supermarket at Frydenhoj (directly opposite Caribbean Inflatable Boats and Liferafts Inc). The store offers discounts on volume purchases for professional charter yachts and is conveniently open 365 days a year from 0700-2200hrs.

This dedicated fresh fish / seafood supplier came highly recommended to us by numerous yachts again last season. Located in Sub Base - just walking distance from Crown Bay Marina - the business is run by Glenroy and Donna Walters. Here, they carry good stocks of around 30 different items for sale... from Dover Sole, flounder, salmon, sea bass and lobster... to mako shark and little-neck clams.

They are open from 0900-1900hrs 5 days a week from Mon-Fri, and 0900-1700hrs on Sat. They will also deliver to one's yacht, anywhere on island... and will even put a package on the ferry to Tortola. Apart from selling wet fish and seafood to the trade, they also have a very clean and simple café / restaurant on their premises, serving 'straight forward' healthy and excellent seafood dishes (at lunch time) accompanied by local juices... a great favourite with locals who are 'in the know'.

Situated within the Crown Bay Marina facility, and at Havensight Mall on the other side of town, Gourmet Gallery have a serious selection of high quality gourmet goods. They have fresh meats, seafood, Deli produce and cheeses, flown in 5 times a week; all other fresh produce flown in 3 to 4 times a week; fresh herbs delivered daily; they bake their own bread daily; and can have any speciality requirements delivered within 2 days!

They carry a huge stock of international / vintage wines, ports and spirits; plus a large selection of cigars, international teas and coffees, and foods from Japan, Mexico, Italy, Greece and the Middle East. At Crown Bay Marina, the store accommodates extensive lines of fresh meat and fish; including venison, buffalo, ostrich and free- range chickens; a good selection of cold cuts and smoked fish, and new grocery items from England, S.Africa, France, Italy and Spain. Yachts based across at Yacht Haven Grande are also in close proximity to the Gourmet Gallery store in Havensight Mall. Here they have a resident chef who looks after the daily preparation of appetizing lunch and take-away entrees, 'heat- and-serve' side dishes, speciality salads and custom deli 'party platters'. These include slow- roasted rotisserie chicken, marinated 'grill-ready' meat and seafood, barbecue baby back ribs, and fresh pastas with 'ready-to-use' sauces. We always receive good feedback from professional yacht crews for the Gourmet Gallery outlets with particularly good reviews for the Crown Bay Marina store; at which you can literally wheel your trolley out of the front doors of the store and right onto the docks... it doesn’t get much better than this if your boat happens to be moored at the Crown Bay Marina docks. Gourmet Gallery also offer to deliver shopping direct to the yacht in other locations, and have a comprehensive brochure listing their large selection of products, for which orders can be made by phone, fax or email.

We received good feedback for these two large Pueblo supermarkets... one located just up the road from Yacht Haven Marina; and the other in Sub Base, close by Crown Bay Marina.

This wet fish and frozen fish wholesaler located on the Dock at Gregory East (right next door to Reefco) came well recommended by both charter yachts and their provisioning agents - and is a serious provider of seafood to the trade in St Thomas. Fresh fish from Sushi cuts to Halibut and quality Steakfish cuts such as Yellow Fin Tuna, Mako Shark Loin, Swordfish and Wahoo, Snapper, Grouper, Mahi Mahi, Corvina, Salmon, Monktail fillet and Shellfish from clams to Live Maine Lobsters! S+P receive daily shipments and their prices follow the market rates. Through their sources, they have access to hundreds of other items that may be otherwise hard to find. Dockside delivery is available direct to one's yacht.
