Conveniently located very close to Crown Bay Marina and next to the Cruise Ship wharfs at Sub Base, is the SubBase Dry Dock, which came very well recommended last year, for offering a versatile and professional full service repair / refit facility with deep water approaches, sheltered protection at the docks and a 300 ton drydock which can accommodate with ease, vessels of up to 11.5 feet draft and 37 feet beam.

They also have a 100 ton crane onsite and furthermore, are expecting to upgrade the drydock to 1600 tons in the near future and extend their fixed wharfside dockage to 140 ft to accommodate the ever increasing numbers and sizes of vessels. Onsite facilities include a very well tooled fabrication and machine shop with lathes and milling equipment, steel or aluminum pressing and rolling machinery up to 3/8 inch, and metal cutting machinery up to 1/2 inch. The fabrication shop was reported to have the largest inventory stock of stainless steel and aluminum in St. Thomas.

They also offer shaft straightening on shafts up to 6 inches diameter. They have a full welding shop with MIG, TIG and plasma cutting capabilities; a carpentry shop and full service fibreglass and paint shop with Awlgrip spraying and refinishing. They are also authorized repair agents for Benetti. SubBase Dry Dock is a family run business which was originally founded in 1981 and is headed up by Gene Kral and daughter, Marie. The facility integrates very well with the other well known and respected service providers onsite, including Island Rigging and Hydraulics (good hydraulics capabilities), Offshore Marine (Yamaha dealers), Quantum Sails and a whole host of other recommended service providers who are located just minutes away on the SubBase ‘estate’... making the dry dock a strategically beneficial location to ‘park up’ and get the work done.

The re-opening of the Yacht Haven Grande Marina last year brought with it a rejuvenated influx of some of the larger Superyachts... and the SubBase Dry Dock were certainly up to the task, being rated very highly by various Captains who used their services, with quotes such as these... “I really appreciated everyone's great service and very competent work” and “You all have done a wonderful job and I would be happy to use your services again in the future.
