Fairhaven / New Bedford - MA

Located on the mainland side of Buzzards Bay, New Bedford and Fairhaven are fast becoming major Superyacht destinations. The New Bedford inner harbor is protected by a massive stone hurricane barrier - closed in the event of bad weather - making it an excellent shelter. Upon entering, to port side is New Bedford, a working fishing port; whilst to starboard is Fairhaven, with the Fairhaven Shipyard and then DN Kelley further inside.

New Bedford

New Bedford has a charming ‘downtown’ area, an authentic seaport with cobblestone streets and period street lighting. It was historically one of America’s biggest whaling ports, and is still a vibrant working fishing port today. New Bedford was once one of the wealthiest towns in the nation; and evidence from this prosperous past can still be seen in the many beautiful commercial buildings and large Captains’ homes. The place inspired Herman Melville to write the story on ‘Moby Dick’ - and their century old whaling museum is one of the largest of its kind in the world. New Bedford also hosts some nice bars and restaurants.
