The people of Valencia and the surrounding area are famous for their colourful and noisy ‘fiestas’ notably ‘Las Falles’ in Feb/March where the city comes alive with parties, parades and events. The region is also home to the Spanish Paella, -the very best quality rice dishes in the whole of Spain are to be found here.
Valencia has undergone a vigorous yet sympathetic revamp during the past decade that now sees it with both the ‘old and new’ comfortably intertwined.
The city’s heritage is visibly present amongst the many fine buildings still standing within the old city including sympathetically restored 15th and 16th century mansions, reminiscent of the times when Valencia was an important global trading centre between both east and west. The ‘La Lonja’ (or Silk Exchange) - a Unesco world heritage site - is an important piece of history from the Gothic era whilst - by contrast - leading from the city towards the port, the City of Arts and Sciences provides an example of one of the most modern and architecturally exciting projects in Europe today.
Also the Oceanographic, Europe's largest Aquarium should not be missed.
On the coast, this region offers some excellent sailing with reliable weather conditions and regular thermal breezes. When the city was chosen to host the 32nd America’s Cup, this previously little known coast of Spain was firmly put on the map as an important new cruising destination for Superyachts from all parts of the globe who came to enjoy the ambience surrounding one of the world’s most prestigious yachting events.
In recent years Valencia’s infrastructure and service offerings for large vessels has significantly improved, providing a viable alternative to other more established Spanish hubs.
Valencia’s Port now houses two ‘state of the art’ Superyacht Marinas, the recently renamed Marina de Valencia (formerly Marina Juan Carlos I) and Valencia Mar with mooring capabilities of 30-120m. Nearby Valencia’s Real Club Nautico is one of the most established sailing clubs in Spain. Its extensive facilities are home to a wide array of nautical suppliers and adjacent to excellent refit and repair facilities for large private yachts. In 2020 Varadero Valencia installed a 300tn travel lift capable of hauling vessels up to 45m out of the water.
The city’s international airport is conveniently 8kms from the city centre and a new metro provides a fast and efficient service from the airport to the port.
