About Costa del Sol, Costa de Almeria

The Costa del Sol covers the Spanish Mediterranean coastline from the border at Gibraltar, running eastwards and taking in the famous luxury resort of Sotogrande, the infamous playgrounds of Marbella and Puerto Banus and the popular beach areas along the coast to Malaga, beyond the Costa de Almeria then reaches to Almeria and on to Cabo de Gata in the south western tip of Spain.

Protected from the northern winds by a mountain chain that in some parts comes down to meet the sea, this sheltered coast is shaped by a succession of long sandy beaches, cliffs and coves. The mild climate, infrequent rainfall and lovely sea breeze make for semitropical vegetation in which palm and cypress trees, bougainvillea, oleander and hibiscus abound. The 1960’s saw a sudden building boom in this area of Spain, and nowadays most of the coastal area of the Costa del Sol is very developed.

Whilst now featuring large residential areas, marinas, golf clubs, entertainment centres, nightclubs and many more tourist attractions; inland, a visitor may still experience the peaceful ambience of old time country villages, which surprisingly retain the attractive traditional features of days gone by.

There are numerous ports and marinas along this stretch of the coast, from Almerimar in the east to Puerto Banus and Sotogrande in the west, but only these three marinas have the facilities and depths required for Superyachts.

Many useful superyacht services can be found in the small busy marina of Estepona, as well as in Gibraltar who also service the ports along this coast. The busy airport at Malaga serves this region and offers many flights within Europe and connections to major European cities for further international travel. To the west, Gibraltar airport has daily flights to and from the UK.
