Ha Long Bay
Ha Long Bay or ‘Bay of the Descending Dragon’ for many represents the pinnacle of their experience in Vietnam. Easily one of the most popular destinations in the country, this UNESCO World Heritage site is both mystical and magnificent, an incredible feat of nature that almost never fails to impress.

It's not the cliffs themselves that make Ha Long Bay unique, but rather their sheer number. A huge bay, dotted with nearly 2,000 mostly uninhabited limestone cliffs, breathtaking scenery!

In what constitutes one of the most fascinating cultural features of the area, some fisherman still live on the bay today, on floating fishing villages, where houses are set atop barges year round, the inhabitants catching and cultivating fish throughout.

Da Nang
There's more to Da Nang than just the gorgeous China Beach. Da Nang boasts the excellent Cham Museum, which is a great primer for a visit to My Son further to the south. The city also has a large Cao Dai temple, a pleasant riverfront  and wide leafy boulevards. There are some good restaurants options which are likely to expand as the city does.

The immediate area includes attractions like Marble Mountain, Monkey Mountain and the Ba Na Hill Station.

Hoi An
Pale yellow houses draped in bougainvillea, shop fronts lit with the glow of silk lanterns, women in conical hats lifting baskets of slippery fish from their boats; life in old town Hoi An looks like a picture postcard of a Vietnamese country town. Of course, that didn't happen by accident. In 1999, the riverside town was listed a UNESCO World Heritage site in an effort to preserve its core of historic architecture, a unique mix of Vietnamese, Chinese, Japanese, and European styles. The majority of Hoi An's most beautiful buildings were constructed from the 15th to 19th centuries.

Restaurants offer menus of local specialties and American breakfasts, tailors offer suits made in less than 24 hours. Most people who visit are charmed.

Nha Trang
Vietnam's most popular beach destination Nha Trang is the capital of Khanh Hoa province, in the south of Vietnam around 450km north of Ho Chi Minh City. Nha Trang has the best city beach

Vietnam has to offer! The town sits in a spectacular setting, surrounded by paddy fields which eventually yield to a semi circle of mountains that loom over this bustling coastal centre.

The beach is perfect for a few days relaxation, where the sand stretches along the bay for 6km and for most of the year the sea is a brilliant turquoise colour. The city also has arguably the best nightlife in Vietnam outside of Saigon.

Diving here is also meant to be the best in Vietnam, with great visibility and marine life that includes Reef Sharks and Stingrays.

Other attractions in the surrounding area include the Ba Ho waterfalls, the mineral mud baths, the Cham Tower and Long Son Pagoda.

Ho Chi Minh City
This is Vietnam's largest and most exciting city, formerly known as Saigon.

Towering developments pierce what was once a very low-key skyline, with five-star hotels and international shopping chains replacing dowdy government guesthouses and empty shelves. Ho Chi Minh City has some of the best cuisine in Vietnam, from cheap street eating to haute cuisine.

Use the city as a base to explore the surrounding area: head out to the tunnels at Chu Chi, the Cao Dai temple at Tay Ninh or jet off to the sublime Con Dao, and of course the entire Mekong Delta to explore.
