About Malta

Strategically located in the Mediterranean, some 93 km south of Sicily, right on the main shipping route between Gibraltar and the Suez Canal, Malta and her neighbouring islands have throughout history played an important maritime role.

Only the three largest islands - Malta Island (Malta), Gozo (Ghawdex), and Comino (Kemmuna) are inhabited. Ruled by ancient cultures such as the Romans, Phoenicians, Byzantines, Sicilians and others, the Maltese Islands host some of the most magnificent buildings ever built, which pre-date the more famous pyramids of Egypt. Mdina, the former capital of Malta, is a typical medieval town situated on one of the highest hills of the island. The ‘Silent City’, as it is known, commands a magnificent view of the island. It is one of the few remaining Renaissance fortified cities in Europe.

Valletta is a World Heritage Capital City and proudly boasts some of the greatest historical and architectural heritage in the Mediterranean. It is well worth having a wander round the streets of Valletta and taking time to see the museums and the cathedral. Gozo’s megalithic temple - the oldest freestanding structure in the world, which dates back to before 3500 BC - still remains today.

Valletta Harbour has been the centre of servicing Naval and commercial vessels for centuries, and many of these skills have been handed down through the ages. Today, Valletta is a popular destination for Superyacht refits because of its excellent and continually improving facilities, competitive pricing, temperate winter weather and friendly, helpful English-speaking staff. Long established companies have provided many professional ‘specialist shipping’ services, and today Malta is also known for its flag registry and low cost fuel bunkering. In Valletta harbour can be found two Superyacht marinas, a full service refit and repair shipyard, a boatyard and many acclaimed yacht services. Malta’s international airport is conveniently just 15 minutes away, and offers frequent daily flights to the UK and other major European destinations.
